Tikog is a special reed grass known for its solid, jointless, and typically triangular stems, commonly found in swampy areas along rice fields. In Alangalang, Tikog is abundant in peatland barangays such as Divisoria, Langit, Tabangohay, and Veteranos. Farmers in these areas have long supplied this raw material to municipalities in Leyte and Samar.

In recent years, Alangalang has nurtured a small group of Tikog weavers, continuing a skill passed down from their grandparents and expanding through training initiatives supported by the LGU-Alangalang, the Department of Trade and Industry, and TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority). These efforts have revitalized Tikog weaving as a local craft, contributing to the community’s cultural heritage and economic sustainability.
