270 ALS Graduates Urged to Pursue Dreams, Build a Better Future “Your circumstances do not define your future; your choices do.”

This was the statement made by Executive Assistant to the Municipal Mayor, Mr. Nataneille Chavez, representing Mayor Lovely Yu-Castro during the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Graduation and Moving-Up Ceremony held yesterday at the Municipal Civic Center. The Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a parallel learning program in the Philippines that provides a practical option for out-of-school youth and adults to complete basic education outside the formal school system. A total of 270 ALS graduates at the Elementary and Junior High School levels from Babatngon, San Miguel, Sta. Fe, Palo, Tanauan, Tolosa, and Alangalang happily received their certificates, marking the completion of their studies under the program. The event also served as an opportunity for Dr. Eleanor Miralles to encourage the graduates to continue their education at the Alangalang Agro-Industrial School through the ALS-Senior High School program, specializing in Shielded Metal Arc Welding. The said program is targeted to open next year to provide additional knowledge and skills for better employment opportunities. Present during the activity were the Area I ALS Implementers and District Supervisors of the Leyte Division, Central School Principals, ALS Education Program Supervisor Ms. Marie Joy Arias, ALS Education Program Specialists Ms. Rhea Ann Desor and Mr. Edmar Azores, Administrative Officer Ms. Paz Catilogo, and the keynote speaker, CO1 Sidney Sudario, an ALS passer from Batch 2010. Aligned with this year’s theme, “Henerasyon ng Pagkakaisa: Kaagapay ng Bagong Pilipinas” (Generation of Unity: Partner of the New Philippines), Mayor Yu-Castro, in her message, emphasized the importance of education in ensuring the success of each individual, their family, the community, and the entire nation. “You are not just the future – you are the present.
